How to Get Rid of Credit Card Debt

Recently, someone asked me “How to get rid of credit card debt”? I was stunned for a while because I never thought that they guy who posed that question had any financial problems at all.

I know a lot of people who are in deep credit card debt. They irony of it all is that although they kept enquiring about how to get rid of credit card debt, they somehow could not control their spend thrift habits. In fact, a colleague of mind was so heavily in debt that recently he approached a bank for a personal loan to clear his debt. The reason he planned to use a bank loan is because its interest rate was half that charged by the credit card company.

Below are a couple of ways to help people who want to know how to get rid of credit card debt. Here goes:

(a) Take out all your credit card bills, grab a calculator and find out exactly how much is your total owning. Trace where all those debts came from and then reverse engineer the whole thing. Work out how much you should limit your spending next month to alleviate your debt situation. Juggle this figure based on your needs (not wants) vis-à-vis your present salary.

(b) You must come out with a well-formulated budget and try to shop using only cash. Refrain from whipping out your credit card every time you go shopping. A huge amount of commitment is needed here.

(c) Once you have a budget planned out, you must work that budget. A perfectly crafted budget is useless if you leave it lying on the drawing board. You must, I repeat, you must take action. By taking action, you will be able to save money each month and then use it as payment to pare down your debts. If you manage to do this every month, your debt level will continue to diminish.

(d) You must change your lifestyle and attitude towards money. Think long term to get rid of your financial problems. Refrain from spending on luxurious items. Do not buy something just because the Jones’s have them. You must realize that it is you who are in a mountain of debt and not them.

Lastly, I hope you could summon a sufficient amount of will to help yourself after reading these tips on how to get rid of credit card debt. Good of luck to you
